Maps are perceived as copies or objective representation of reality. In fact they are arbitrary projections. We cant read reality from a map, what we can read is the culture and the values of the context in which the map was made.
By choosing what to show, what to include, what to exclude, what to emphasize, and how to visually represent the information in the map, the cartographer directs the reality the map will show, and the mapmaker is the creator of that specific aspect of reality.
CARTOGRAPHIES explores, develops and features alternative cartographies and alternative values they represent.
